60th Anniversary Banquet
September 27, 2017

Dear Calvary Members,
I hope this letter finds you with the best of God’s blessings.
The Scriptures remind us, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.  And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.  For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2, NIV).
What an appropriate text for the celebration of Calvary Baptist Church, McAllen’s 60th anniversary.  While the biblical writer refers to all the people of faith who have gone before us since the beginning, we particularly think of those who have gone before us at CBC these last 60 years.  We are aware that as we continue this race toward the finish line, those who have gone before us surround us as a cloud of witnesses.  That is both humbling and encouraging!
On Saturday, November 4th, 2017 at 6:00 PM in the McAllen Convention Center Ballroom our church will celebrate with a banquet.  Those who attend will enjoy music, food, fellowship, testimonies, recognitions, and words of encouragement.  We will thank God for the past 60 years and we will trust God for the next season of CBC McAllen.  Tickets are $25 a person and may be purchased at the church office during weekdays and on the church plaza on Sundays.  The ballroom has a capacity of 450 people and we expect tickets to go quickly.  So secure yours today!
I am grateful for Rosie Wilkinson who is coordinating the details of this banquet and the many volunteers it takes to make it happen.  Several ladies from the WIT service team will also have tickets available for purchase.  As you might expect, the attire for the banquet will be semi-formal, fitting for such a special celebration.
Childcare will be available for children up to sixth grade (age 12) for $5 per child at the CBC children’s building.  There will be no provision for students (older than age 12).  You must make arrangements directly with CBC’s children’s ministry office either online* by clicking here or by coming to the children’s ministry welcome center.  The deadline for making childcare reservations is October 29.
While this is a celebration banquet, not a fundraising banquet, those who desire to make a donation above and beyond the cost of their ticket may do so either in memory of a loved one, in honor of a long-time member, or in consideration of others who may not be able to purchase tickets.  Accordingly, the proceeds of the donation would be applied either to future Calvary initiatives or to help subsidize tickets for other members.  If you wish to make a donation in memory of someone please contact Sara Brand (956-605-6818 or  Photos of those who have passed away can be submitted to her by October 22nd so they can be part of a media presentation.  Any other donations or donation questions can be directed to Rosie Wilkinson (956-607-2892) or Paulo Gatan (
We have received an anonymous matching donation of $10,000 toward the banquet honoring the cloud of witnesses and encouraging those who are running the race.  This donation has made it possible to subsidize the cost of the banquet so that no budget funds are being used.  In addition it will provide significant funds for key CBC initiatives beyond the church budget in 2018.  We will share more about those initiatives at the banquet.  In the meantime please know that this matching gift is an opportunity for others who feel led to also donate with the possibility of raising up to $20,000.  There will be no pressure to give at the banquet and no pledge cards.  This is an opportunity for individuals to participate before or after the banquet while not making anyone feel uncomfortable during our celebration.
We are also asking those of you that have photos and mementos of the past to help us.  We are including historical photos of church life, long-time members, former pastos and staff members in media and displays.  Please submit any of the above to the church office by October 22nd.
God is doing great things through Calvary Baptist Church, McAllen.  We are glad that you are part of that.  I hope you can join our celebration on November 4.  Make sure you secure your tickets soon.
